Hundreds of soldiers are preparing to march through Halifax town centre today.
A homecoming parade has been organised by Calderdale Council for the town to show its appreciation to The 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment (Duke of Wellington’s).
The soldiers have recently returned from a gruelling six month tour of Afghanistan.
To accommodate the huge event, which is expected to be watched by thousands, road closures will be in place for part of the day on Crossley Street, part of Horton Street, Church Street and Dispensary Walk.
The parade of more than 400 soldiers, a military band and mounted police, leaves the Shay Stadium at 11.40 am and will arrive at the Piece Hall for noon via Union Street South, Union Street, Market Street, Crossley Street, Princess Street, Southgate Precinct, Wards End, and Horton Street.
The parade will then make its way to Halifax Minster for a 1.30 pm service and then march along South Parade, Hunger Hill to a reception at the Shay stadium for 3 pm.
