Halifax RLFC: Black 'back for France'
CROCKED Halifax half back Ben Black has targeted the club's clash with Toulouse on July 18 as his comeback date.
The Australian playmaker missed last weekend's 34-28 loss at Gateshead after damaging ligaments in his hand in the Northern Rail Cup quarter final win against Leigh a fortnight ago.
But Black, who was sporting a cast on his wrist at the International Stadium, has insisted his absence won't be a long one, labelling the injury a "week to week" proposition.
"I did it against Leigh and played with it against Widnes the following week with a needle," said Black, who has signed a new two year contract that will keep him at the club until the end of 2011.
"I thought it was just a knock, but I had a second scan on it and there's some ligament damage.
"I could play with it, but if I took another bang on it I could end up needing an operation to pin it and we decided it wasn't worth the risk.
"It shouldn't be more than three weeks, so I'll miss Leigh this Friday and the Northern Rail nines, but I should be back for the Toulouse game."
While Black's absence is a blow for Fax, it has also come at the worst possible time for their star import, who has spent the last nine days wrestling with the consequences of the late dropped ball that almost certainly cost his side victory against the Vikings and a place in the Northern Rail Cup final.
"I've watched it plenty of times on DVD, I've watched it with Matt Calland and I'd love to have an excuse but there isn't one, I just lost it cold," admitted Black.
"It wasn't even my bad hand, nothing.
"I take big responsibility for what happened in the game, but I have to look forward to the rest of the season.
"I've got something in my head now that I have to get over, but the boys have been tremendous with me and I just can't wait to get back playing again.
"I really want to get to that Grand Final now, that's my big personal goal.
"I want to win it for the boys because I feel I have let them down."
