Halifax RLFC - Tough nines draw
HALIFAX have been handed a potentially tricky draw for the Northern Rail Nines, being paired with Championship rivals Sheffield and Championship One high flyers Oldham in pool E.
Both clubs boast a clutch of ex-Fax players on their rosters, with the Eagles the only side to beat Fax in league football so far this season.
The tournament will take place in Blackpool on the weekend of the Northern Rail Cup final - July 11 and 12 - with the preliminary rounds at Fylde RUFC and the final and plate final being played as curtain raisers to the main event of the weekend.
Five pools were drawn by Northern Rail's Heidi Mottram, with four teams contesting pools A, B and C with three in both D and E.
The top two teams in Pools A, B and C, in addition to the top teams from pools D and E will progress from the group stages on Saturday to the Northern Rail Nines Trophy on Sunday.
Pool A: Swinton, Rochdale, Blackpool, Dewsbury.
Pool B: Batley, Keighley, Hunslet, Doncaster.
Pool C: London Skolars, Leigh, Gateshead, York.
Pool D: Whitehaven, Workington, Featherstone.
Pool E: Oldham, Sheffield, Halifax
York leapfrogged Oldham into second in Co-operative Championship One after overcoming a half-time deficit to post a 20-18 victory.
The Roughyeds started the game just one point ahead of their hosts and tries from Neil Roden, Tommy Goulden and Chris Baines as well as three goals from Andy Bullard secured them an 18-14 lead.
However, the hosts hit back to score six points and move to within six points of leaders Dewsbury.
John Oakes, David Clayton, Tom Haberecht and Paul Hughes all went over for the Knights with Adam Mitchell adding two goals.
