Halifax RLFC v Leigh Centurions: I never got a shot: Tom
LOAN flop Tom Hemingway says revenge won't be on his mind when he returns to Halifax with Leigh for Friday night's Co-operative Championship showdown - but the young stand off reckons he "didn't really get a chance" to prove himself at the Shay.
The Huddersfield Giants player joined Fax in May on a month-long deal that was expected to turn into a season-long move.
But the 22 year old was sent packing after just two and a half weeks on the back of low key performances against Sheffield and Doncaster.
"Halifax cut the loan short, not me," said Hemingway, who linked up with Paul Rowley's team - who have announced the return of their former coach Ian Millward on a three year deal from 2010 - on similar terms last week.
"I didn't really get much of a chance, I played 40 or 50 minutes when they lost to Sheffield, which wasn't the easiest game to play in anyway, and then the same again at Doncaster.
"If you go somewhere for a month to try and further your career, you expect to train and play for a full month, not get sent back, so it didn't make me feel the best.
"In the end, I got the feeling that Matt Calland didn't really see me in his team and that was that.
"I'm looking forward to going back, but I look forward to every game.
"It would be nice to play well against them, but I don't have anything to prove or owe anything to anyone."
Hemingway, made his Leigh debut in last weekend's loss to Whitehaven at the Recreation Ground, believes it was actually harder for him to impress at Fax because of their white-hot start to the season, which saw them win 13 straight matches in all competitions.
"They've got some really key individuals, like Sean Penkywicz and Mark Gleeson, that make them tick and it's hard to go into a team like that and start bossing them," said Hemingway.
"They knew what had worked for them for the last 12 weeks or whatever and they tended to stick with that.
"If you look at the Doncaster game, Penkywicz had something like 38 carries of the ball.
"I touched it literally three or four times.
"It was pretty frustrating."
