Halifax RU statement
Halifax RUFC announces that in the season to commence September 2009 it will play in Yorkshire Six.
The club has found it increasingly difficult, especially in the current economic climate, to maintain its semi-professional status. Therefore next season it will operate wholly on an amateur basis.
The club is pleased to say that the highly successful Vikings XV of last season will form the basis, at least, of the team for Yorkshire Six. They will play as Halifax RUFC.
The club has also maintained its presence in the Yorkshire Merit League and it is expected that a new "Vikings" XV will fulfil fixtures at that level.
In charge of these two senior teams will be John Henry who has led the Vikings of last season most ably and enthusiastically. He will be assisted by a growing number of qualified coaches and all former players and old and new members will be warmly welcomed.
Training is continuing at Ovenden Park each Tuesday evening commencing at 7pm.
The Junior Section, which has also had a highly successful 2008/9 season, will continue to expand – with a full coaching complement. Plans are being made for a possible Veterans XV.
The club will continue to provide its full social, family and community programme and takes this opportunity to thank sponsors and all who have supported it in recent years.
