Halifax RUFC: Perrett to lead on the pitch
MICHAEL Perrett has been charged with the responsibility of leading Halifax's Yorkshire Six campaign on the field.
Perrett has been handed the captain's armband for the season which kicks off in earnest with a visit to Rawmarsh on September 12.
Back row forward Perrett is a well-known figure at the club and made a brief apperance as a second half replacement in Halifax's 48-7 National Three (North) defeat in April - the first time he had pulled on a first team shirt in six years.
"I thought long and hard but really Michael stood out as a prime candidate," said Halifax coach John Henry.
"I have known him and his family for years and I know how much commitment he brings to the club.
"It is that commitment that I want from my captain and I know he is extremely excited to have been chosen.
"He leads from the front in training and the other players really look up to him and respect him.
"Pez has got himself extremely fit and he is the sort of player who won't expect others to do things that he won't or can't do himself.
"It is a challenge for both of us and we are looking forward to working at it together."
Meanwhile, Halifax have confirmed that they will travel to take on Skipton for the Moya Childs Trophy on Saturday August 8.
The club have also re-established their links with the Duke of Wellington Regiment and a team called Halifax Dukes has been enterted into the Yorkshire Four Merit League.
It is hoped that the club will be able to arrange friendly games against the regimental team in the future.
LAST season's Halifax Vikings squad held their presentation evening at Ovenden Park where former Bradford Bulls and Great Britain hooker James Lowes handed out the prizes to: Youngest player of the year- Liam Noble; Older player of the year - Mick Perret; Top Try Scorer - John Robertson; Best Newcomer - Stephen Jones; Most improved player - Craig Smith; Players player of the year - Nick Elvidge; Man of the Match of the Year - Sam Lukonde; Coaches players of the year, Jonny Greenwood and Adam Shaw.
