Halifax Town are on the up - Stajic
TOWN'S recent success on the pitch has been mirrored by success off it, with commercial activity on the increase.
And commercial manager Pete Stajic is delighted by the positive feedback he is now getting.
It was an area of the club that had been neglected towards the end of the Conference years and Stajic had to start from scratch when he was appointed to the job a little under two years ago.
Now all his hard work - and that of the players, management and board - is starting to pay dividends.
"It has progressed massively over the last 12 months," he said. "And obviously the way the lads are playing on the pitch is making all the difference.
"It is always better when a club is performing on the pitch because people want to be a part of that.
"The feedback I get is that everyone sees we are doing things the right way and are run as a professional club.
"We pay our way and we do everything right."
The opening of the new East Stand last Easter has been a massive plus for Stajic.
"This is the third home I have had in the space of two years," he said. "The Portacabin served its purpose as did the Weavers.
"The new stand has taken us to a whole new level. You are proud to show people round."
One area the facility has helped develop is matchday sponsorship and that has been a real boon.
"Once I get everyone tied down I don't think we are far away from filling our match sponsorships," he said.
"And we might even have one or two extra.
"It is looking healthier than at this time last season."
Attendances for home games were up last season as Town stormed to the One North title.
And Stajic has noticed an increased interest from people who were previously indifferent to the goings-on at the club.
"The profile is good and even people not directly involved with the club know what's going on," he said. "People are talking and it is amazing how many people stop me to ask about the forthcoming season."
Sol Campbell is relishing the challenge of trying to help lift Newcastle back up to their former heights after joining the Magpies on a one-year contract.
Toon boss Chris Hughton had been eager to strengthen his defence ahead of Newcastle's return to the Barclays Premier League following injuries to Steven Taylor, Danny Simpson and new signing James Perch.
For Campbell, it is a far cry from last summer, when he made the surprise move from Portsmouth to then League Two side Notts County before deciding after one game that it was not for him.
A return to Arsenal, the club he had played for between 2001 and 2006, gave him the chance to prove he could still hack it in the top flight, and he had no shortage of suitors when he left the Gunners for the second time.
Campbell said: "At this stage of my career I couldn't have wished for a better move. To join a club such as Newcastle United, with its proud tradition, heritage and magnificent support, is absolutely tremendous for me.
"I'd like to thank Chris Hughton and I aim to repay him and the supporters by giving everything I possibly can to help re-establish this great club in the top tier of English football."
