Halifax Town: Massive gate looms as Shaymen host FC United on New Year's Day

FC Halifax Town can look forward to a bumper New Year's Day crowd at the Shay after being handed a home game with FC United of Manchester on January 1.

That was the stand out game in the Evo-Stik Premier Division fixture list which has Town opening their campaign at home to Buxton on August 21.

The Shaymen averaged 1,452 for One North games last season on their way to the title - up 24 per cent on the previous season.

FC United were watched at home by an average of 1,954 and when the sides meet on the first day of 2011 the attendance could threaten last season's biggest Premier Division crowd when 2,533 were at Boston for United's visit.

After opening against Buxton, Town have a couple of away games - at Frickley Athletic and Chasetown - before returning home to face Colwyn Bay on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Shaymen then face former Conference foes when Northwich travel to West Yorkshire on September 7.

A quirk of the fixtures is a quickfire double header against Whitby at the Shay - in the FA Cup on September 11 and the league seven days later.

The first of the derbies with Bradford Park Avenue is at the Shay on Tuesday, October 19, with the return on Saturday, November 27 at the Horsfall Stadium.

Burscough, beaten in the FA Cup last season by Town, return to the Shay on October 26 while there are a couple of lengthy trips to the coast in mid winter, Town playing at Colwyn Bay on January 3 and Whitby on February 26.

In addition to the Festive game against FC United, Town are also at home on December 27 when they entertain Ossett Town.

And the regular season ends on Easter Monday when the Shaymen make the short journey to Ossett for the return.

There are a couple of blank weekends early in the season with September 25 reserved for the second qualifying round of the FA Cup and October 30 left clear for the same stage of the FA Trophy.

Progress beyond those two rounds would mean games having to be re-arranged.

The dates for the Evo-Stik League's cup competitions have also been announced.

The preliminary round of the League Cup takes place in the week commencing September 20 with the first round in the week starting October 13.

The President's Cup first round will take place in the week beginning October 25.
