Halifax Town player facing spitting rap
DEFENDER Paul Collins will be fined by boss Jim Vince after he saw red in the Boxing Day derby with Ossett Albion at the Shay.
The former Woodley Sports skipper became the first Town player to be dismissed this season when he was shown a red card just past the hour mark in the feisty 1-1 draw after spitting at an opponent in retaliation to an alleged stamp.
And Vince was clearly unhappy by the left back's actions.
"There is no place in our club and no place in football for that kind of behaviour," he said.
"There will be a club fine imposed for that.
"He retaliated to a stamp but what he did was disgusting.
"He knows he was wrong and he is very apologetic, but we are not having that."
Town were trailing to a 51st-minute Andrew Catton strike at the time of Collins' red card.
Ossett were reduced to 10 men four minutes later when Andrew Seed was dismissed for a crude challenge on Scott Phelan.
Nigel Jemson popped up in the 88th minute to bag the goal that gave the Shaymen a point and kept them at the top of Unibond One North.
But Vince admitted it had been another exasperating performance from his side who created enough first half chances to have won a couple of games.
"Once again, the ratio of the amount of chances to the number of times we get the ball in the net was not good," he said.
"Something will have to be done because we are not killing teams off.
"It should have been done and dusted in the first half.
"I will have to have a chat with the right people at the club to see if there is something we can do.
"At the moment the team is playing well enough to be walking games."
Even without the two red cards, this would have gone down as one of the more physical games at the Shay so far this season.
"That's their game and that's what they wanted to do," said Vince. "We knew what to expect and the disappointment for me is that we were involved in it.
"We don't have to make it a fight. If we do we go down to their level."
Scott Phelan limped from the field after 70 minutes and initial fears are that he has suffered a hamstring injury that could keep him out for six weeks.
"We will assess it but it doesn't look too good at the moment," said Vince, whose side are next in action on New Year's Day at Harrogate Railway.
Town remain at the top of the table thanks to Bamber Bridge's 3-1 defeat at neighbours Chorley.
Lancaster City climbed to second in the table after a 1-0 win over Clitheroe.
