Halifax Town - Wilder set for switch

CHRIS Wilder's future is likely to be settled in the next 24 hours or so as speculation linking him with a switch to Bury increases.

The League Two side are set to name a new assistant to manager Alan Knill, himself a former Halifax defender, today.

And, six years after arriving at Halifax Town, Wilder is expected to be the man unveiled by the Gigg Lane club.

Wilder, who still had 12 months to run on his contract with the Shaymen, admitted earlier this month that he had not been expecting to be manager of a Unibond League Division One North side at this stage of his career.

There never seemed any likelihood of him staying at the Shay following their three division demotion.

And the club confirmed today that he had left the club to take up a position with a Football League club

In his six years at Halifax, Wilder had been linked with possible moves to Chester City, Hartlepool United, Rotherham United and Cambridge United, where he appeared destined for in September 2006 until deciding to stay at the Shay.

That came four months after he guided the team to the Conference play-off final at Leicester City's Walkers Stadium.

There is still no news on the likes of Adam Quinn and Jon Shaw who are still under contract to - and being paid by - the club in administration.

The old club still wants a fee for the duo, as well as Darryn Stamp and Nathan Joynes, although there is some hope for them following Tom Kearney's departure to Wrexham on a free transfer last week.

With Wilder's imminent appointment at Bury, speculation on a new boss for the re-formed Halifax club is also set to intensify.

Courier Sport understands that a couple of candidates have been interviewed for the job of leading the club back from the football wilderness.

And the club issued a statement at the weekend suggesting that there could be some news in the 'very early part' of this week.

Given that the Unibond League season starts on August 16, whoever is handed the task is going to have to work quickly to assemble a squad and arrange friendlies prior to the big kick off.
