Halifax v Melbourne Storm: Kop so keen
HALIFAX'S on loan Bradford Bull Craig Kopczak "didn't know" about his new club's forthcoming World Club Challenge warm up date with Melbourne Storm when he agreed a month-long deal to move to the Shay.
But now the 21-year-old prop, who turned down last season's National League One Grand Finalists Widnes to join Matt Calland's outfit, cannot wait to test himself against the NRL title holders on Friday night.
"To be honest, I didn't really know about Melbourne until after I signed, I came here because of the history of the Halifax club and the things they have achieved," said Kopczak, who made a hard hitting debut in Sunday's 48-16 Northern Rail Cup thrashing of Whitehaven.
"But I am really looking forward to it now because it's a great chance to show the talent that we have at the club.
"We were really dominant on Sunday, with and without the ball, and things are looking good for us.
"We've got to go out there with the intention of winning, not just turning up and playing.
"We'll see whether that's realistic or not on the night, but it should be a classic game."
Kopczak made a handful of Super League appearances for the Bulls in 2006, but found himself sidelined last year largely due to the emergence of Great Britain prodigy Sam Burgess and fellow Wales international Matt James.
Now he is hoping to use his spell with Fax as a springboard back to the big time.
"I just want to get some experience to help me progress my career," said Kopczak, who replaced the hugely experienced Frank Watene in Calland's matchday 17 for the Whitehaven clash.
"National League One is a lot better standard than playing under 21s, which is only going to help me.
"It's not as fast as Super League, but the physicality is certainly there.
"Sunday was brilliant, I really enjoyed it.
"They're a great bunch of lads with a great team spirit and they made it easy for me to slot into the side."
