There are nearly 450 children at Northowram. The proportion eligible for free meals, with special educational needs or from minority ethnic groups is well below average.

They are well behaved and polite, and they benefit from good, and on occasions outstanding teaching.

“Pupils enjoy their learning, are active participants and are keen to succeed.

“They enjoy having responsibilities and make a good contribution to the life of the school through the school council and being buddies to younger pupils.”

Ofted inspectors describe the curriculum as well organised with art being a strength of the school.

“However, pupils do not have a strong enough sense of cultural diversity.”

The school has good links with parents, the headteacher and deputy have communicated a vision for improvement and there is a strong team spirit and commitment to excellence.
