Harrogate Railway v FC Halifax Town:Costly defeat for Shaymen
Harrogate Railway 2 FC Halifax Town 0 Town's title hopes suffered a major setback as they were beaten in the New Year's Day clash with Harrogate Railway at Station View.
Town made all the early running with Paul Collins and Nigel Jemson both sending headers into the arms of home keeper Jordan Yorath.
Ajay Leitch-Smith was wide with a shot on the turn while Jemson's header from an Damien Allen corner also caused problems for the Railway defence.
Tom Baker almost broke the deadlock just before the half hour with a curling free kick that was tipped over by Yorath.
Railway went close from a left wing corner, Scott Ryan firing over the bar from eight yards, but rarely troubled Town keeper Jon Kennedy.
Harrogate looked livelier at the start of the second half and took the lead on the hour when Scott Jackson drilled the ball home from the right of the area.
And it got worse two minutes later when Steve Smith added the home side's second from close range.
Substitute Ashley Stott had an effort ruled out for offside sooin after and Collins had a shot headed off the line with 17 minutes remaining.
