Harrogate Railway v FC Halifax Town: Town look for a flying start to the New Year

Having ended the first half of the season with a frustrating draw, Town could do with a flying start to 2009 when they visit Harrogate Railway tomorrow.

And with Wakefield arriving at the Shay 48 hours later on Saturday, Jim Vince's side have a real opportunity to re-ignite their campaign.

They have had plenty of chances to have won more than one out of the last five league games.

But despite two defeats at the hands of Rossendale, and draws with Newcastle and Ossett, they remain top of the Unibond One North table.

And while they will be relying on others who have played fewer games dropping points in the coming weeks, they have to take care of their own business.

Railway were the unfortunate side to miss out on a Boxing Day fixture in the 21-team division, but that means they will be fresh for tomorrow's clash at Station View.

They will be looking for their first home win since November 15 when they beat Radcliffe Borough 2-1.

Since then they have been beaten 4-2 by Skelmersdale United and 1-0 by Colwyn Bay.

In all, Railway have won just three times in 10 attempts on home spoil this season - Rossendale and Woodley Sports joining Radcliffe in returning home with nothing to show for their efforts.

Their remaining seven home games in the league have all ended in defeat which means they have taken nothing from any side higher than 15th in the table.

By contrast, Town have won five and drawn one of their nine away games - and have lost only once, at Rossendale, to a side in the bottom half of the table.

Station View will not be a complete mystery to the majority of the Town squad, the Shaymen having played there in the FA Trophy at the beginning of October.

That game did not turn out as Vince and his players would have hoped as Railway ended their hopes of a run in non League's premier knockout competition with a 2-1 win, Colin Daniel scoring Halifax's consolation goal on his debut.

Danny Meadowcroft also made his first Town appearance that afternoon and is likely to lead the team tomorrow when he will be hoping for a far happier outcome and the perfect start to the New Year.
