A TOWN is buzzing with excitement after making the final of a national TV show.
Organisers in Todmorden submitted a bid to get £44,714 of funding to help make the town bee friendly.
They are now counting down to their appearance on the People’s Millions show on Wedenesdaywhen they could see their dream come true.
The plans for “Beespoke Todmorden” have been put together by Incredible Edible, Todmorden Pride and Todmorden in Bloom.
They have ambitious plans to transform their town if they get the money.
Incredible Edible’s Mary Clear said: “We will buld bee-friendly gardens and create lots of bee homes. We also want to train a whole generation of beekeepers and buy them all the equipment they need.
“Then we’re going to design and publish maps so you can get off the train in Todmorden and know where the gardens are to learn everything you want to about bees,” said Mary.
“It’ll show off the Incredible Edible vegetables and we’re going to take an ugly part of the towpath and create interative information that will give people the chance to get up-close and personal with the bees,” she said.
They are the only Calderdale scheme to make it into the final and want people to pick up their phones to vote for their plans.
The town has come over with bee-fever, with shops backing the scheme and trees being taken over with yellow and black stripes.
“Everyone’s gone a bit bee crazy in Todmorden,” said Mary.
The campaign has tested organisers to the limit. With a budget of nothing they have transformed old banners and buildings into a vision of yellow and black, all hoping to secure their funding.
Voting takes place from 9am to midnight on the June 29.
Calls will cost 10p from land lines, and you can vote up to 10 times. The voting line will be announced on the day and online atincredible-edible-todmorden.co.uk.
