A midwife from Greetland is the first in the country be selcted for a presitgious NHS programme for leaders of the future.

Joanne Machon, midwife for teenage pregnancy at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, is among 80 healthcare professionals nationally to join the NHS Leadeship Academy, which aims to develop outsanding leadership in the NHS to improve patients’ health and experience.

More than 800 applied for the places and Joanne was accepted after a rigorous selection processinvolving maths and personality tests and an interview in Manchester.

She said: “I am passionate about the NHS and am passionate about wanting the NHS to be delivering the very best care for its patients that it can. I am very proud to have been selected and feel this will develop me so that I contribute more to the NHS to make it even better. I am also very grateful to the Trust for all its support.”
