The award recognises the support of a health professional who has gone the extra mile for parents during pregnancy complications.

Mrs Bhabra was nominated by patient Katrina Cliffe, 26, of Lindley, Huddersfield, who she helped through two miscarriages in 2004.

Katrine, who now has a daughter Stevie, five, and is 26 weeks pregnant with her second child, said: “After our loss Kaly did everything to investigate the cause – I doubt that without having her as my consultant that we would have Stevie, especially as I know a lot of losses aren’t investigated until there have been a number of them.”

Mrs Bhabra, who also works at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, said: “I was shocked with the news of the award as had not been expecting it. I am deeply honoured and feel humbled by the gesture from Katrina for nominating me.

“There are many obstetricians and gynecologists in the UK working hard to improve the quality of care for mothers and babies. Premature labour remains a difficult area of management for us all.”
