Dedicated blood donors from Halifax have been recognised for rolling up their sleeves to help save lives.

The donors were honoured at an awards event held by NHS Blood and Transplant at Leeds Metropolitan University on 21st November 2013.

The five donors from Halifax were joined by others from across West and North Yorkshire, with a total of 59 donors receiving crystal awards.

Each blood donation can potentially save the lives of up to three people so the donors at the event may have helped save or improve around 17,000 lives between them.

Donna Batty, Lead Donor Relations Manager at NHS Blood and Transplant, said: “We would like to thank these donors for their commitment and dedication to blood donation. They are an inspiration to us all.

“If these donors have inspired you, please register to donate now, as we always need new donors.

“This is always an extremely challenging time of year for us as we need to make sure that hospitals are supplied with the blood they need to treat patients over the Christmas holidays.

“We need donors from all blood groups, but we especially need O Rh negative and B Rh negative to come forward.

“Whether you’re a regular blood donor, or have never donated before, you can make a real difference. So please make an appointment now or go along to an local session.”
