THE new state-of-the-art endoscopy unit at Calderdale Royal Hospital is off to a flying start with a top award.

The multi-million pound unit at Calderdale Royal Hospital, and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, which opened earlier this year, have been awarded a top accreditation.

The award lasts five years and highlights first-class areas of care.

Both hospitals’ units are the most modern facilities of their type in the country.

In their final report, inspectors said the sites should be congratulated on being patient-focused, innovative and for delivering quality standards.

They also singled out impressive cross-site leadership and teamwork.

Divisional director for medicine, Dr Ashwin Verma, said the fact that the units were so patient-centred in every aspect led to the fantastic rating.

“There has only ever been one focus and that is providing the best care for the patients,” he said.
