A cancer patient and her family have raised thousands for the Macmillan unit at Calderdale Royal Hospital.

Jean Bottomley, who has just finished an 18 week course of chemotherapy at the unit, has been raising money with her husband Paul. A garden sale at their house on Richmond Avenue, Boothtown raised 31600, with Paul’s stepsister Lois Day raising £509 in a sponsored head shave and Jane’s sister Janety Myhowycz chopping off her hair for £200. The couple have raised £3,000 for the unit since Jane’s diagnosis.

They have also paid for the staff at the unit to go out for a meal.

Mr Bottomley said: “We want to give something back becuase they have been absolutely brilliant.”
