A THEATRE company is working with dementia patients in Halifax to help with their memories.

2TourTheatre, a small touring company, will be running two performances for patients and staff at Calderdale Royal Hospital’s Beechdale ward, part of the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

The show will be a sensory experience, using the memories patients told the theatre group during their research.

The actors will re-enact the memories of patients while using smells, objects, tastes and sounds.

The trust’s Dr Richard Coatenis the project co-ordinator.

He said: “The aim of the project is not only therapeutic for patients, it also helps staff see the person behind the illness; a person who has had a full life, with a myriad of experiences, someone so much more than a patient on a ward with problems.”
