A senior nurse at Calderdale Royal Hospital has made a fund-raising splash to thank a vital service which helps newborns.
Sister Cath Whitworth works in the special care baby unit at the Halifax hospital and wanted to thank a volunteer biker service which collects and delivers milk supplies to newborn babies.
The Whiteknights bikers offer a delivery and collection service between hospitals in Yorkshire. Cath - who has previously had a liver transplant - took part in the one-mile Great Manchester Swim in Salford Quays to raise £270 for the cause. She had initially planned to take part in the Great North Swim in Lake Windermere but after that was called off due to bad weather, she switched challenges. Cath said: “They do so much for us I thought we should give them something back. So many of our mums rely on them to ensure their babies get the best start in life.”
She has also won several medals for swimming at the Transplant Games following her transplant and says she keeps fit to honour the memory of her donor.
