A Lightcliffe woman has celebrated her 100th birthday with afternoon tea with family and residents.

Hilda Travis was born in Lightcliffe on February 13, 1914, and attended Lightcliffe CofE School until she was 14-years-old. She met her husband Victor while working at T F Firths carpets at Bailiff Bridge and married in 1936. They had two children, two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Mr Travis died in 1988.

She had lived independently until she was 94-years-old, before joining Woodlands Care Home, Mirfield, in 2009.

She used to enjoy reading and socialising.

Kelly Hopkinson, activity department manager at the home, said: “Hilda is our oldest resident she is full of life and has an amazing character.”
