Piece Hall’s revamped south gates were officially opened by the mayor.

The repaired and repainted four tonne wrought iron gates, revealed an original Victorian colour scheme by specialist heritage company, Chris Topp, Architectural Metalworkers. Mr Topp said: “The council went out on a limb to create a colour scheme that is true to the original period.”

Mayor of Calderdale, John Hardy, said the restored gates will enhance the whole building, ahead of conservation work funded by the Heritage Lottery fund. Council surveyor, Les Branston confirmed that the restoration cost was around £80,000 but said: “the real value was priceless.”
