LOoking for a little inspiration with your New Year resolutions?
Overgate Hospice at Elland is asking for people who have some time to spare to come forward and help make 2012 a bigger year than ever.
Tracey Broadbent, senior retail co-ordinator, said: “We rely on volunteers to support the work done by the hospice and nowhere are they more needed than in our 11 charity shops.
“We have shops throughout Calderdale and our team of volunteers are hard working, dedicated and passionate about the hospice.”
Shops in King Cross and Sowerby Bridge are those currently in need for Monday to Saturday shifts, and weekend volunteers are needed in Todmorden and Hebden Bridge.
Their shops are not just charity shops – there is a designer-wear shop and a new addition this year is a charity pound shop.
Angie Glenn, who volunteers in Todmorden, said: “I volunteer because it’s such a great cause and you can see where the money raised is going. I also volunteer with such a great team, who are good fun.”
Sowerby Bridge volunteer Myrna Currie said: “It’s a local charity and I always wanted to volunteer for a people charity and I feel Overgate is Calderdale’s charity.
“I have also known several people who have been cared for by the Overgate staff and the care is second to none.”
Tracey said: “We owe a great deal to all our volunteers. We would not be able to run our shops without them and all the shop managers appreciate them.
“We do need more in several or our shops and we take volunteers from the age of 16 upwards. There is no upper age limit.
“If you are fit and able then we will welcome your help.”
She also thanked all the volunteers for their work in 2011.
