FANCY seeing some fast and furious roller sport?

Hot Wheel Roller Derby are holding their first public bout in Calderdale at North Bridge Leisure Centre, Halifax, on October 30.

The team, who feature several Calderdale members, will be playing Newcastle Rollergirls.

As well as the bout, there will be stalls to visit, a raffle and half-time entertainment.

Tickets £5 in advance, £6 on the door and free for under 16s.

Roller derby is a fast and furious women’s contact sport. Each team sends five skaters on at a time, consisting of blockers and a jammer.

The blockers set off round the track first, trying to knock each other out of the way to give their jammer the advantage.

The jammers set off on a second whistle, racing each other to get through the packs of blockers. Every time they lap the pack, they gain points.
