MORE than 50 golfers took part in the annual NSPCC golf day at West End Golf Club in Halifax for the Crabbers Cup trophy.

Entrants were greeted with a Champagne reception and were supplied with food and drinks around the course.

In total they raised £17,000 the children’s charity.

Helen Verity, the NSPCC’s community fund-raising manager, said: “£17,000 is the highest amount ever raised by this annual event.

“This is an amazing achievement, especially in this difficult economic climate.

“The amount raised will make a real difference to vulnerable and abused children in West Yorkshire and across the UK.”

Richard Blackburn, from main sponsor Wilby’s, said: “ It was a really fun day.

“Everyone enjoyed themselves and I would like to express my thanks to everybody involved for their generosity and support of this great children’s charity.”
