Huge fire leaves barn gutted

A BLAZE in the early hours of yesterday has left a barn completely gutted.

Firefighters were called to Stones Bridge Farm on Stone House Lane, off Rochdale Road in Walsden, at 12.45am.

Only the frames of the breeze block and timber-clad building were left standing.

Engineering equipment and tools inside were destroyed.

Five crews were called, from West Yorkshire, Greater Manchester and Lancashire, and they managed to stop the fire spreading to nearby buildings. There was some minor damage to a caravan.

Propane and acetylene cylinders were found inside the barn which had to be cooled for 24 hours.

Carl Fielden, watch manager at Todmorden Fire Station, said fire investigators are now looking into what caused the blaze.
