Hundreds of walkers have taken to the canal banks in the annual Rotary Navigation Walk along the Calder and Hebble Navigation.

Today, walkers have enjoyed beautiful scenery as they complete between two and 20 miles, from Sowerby Bridge to Horbury, to raise money for local hospices Overgate, Elland and Forget Me Not, Huddersfield, and Wakefield and Kirkwood.

The walk was fully signed and marshalled along the route by Rotarians.

Sowerby Bridge Rotary President, Richard Goodwin, who was marshalling at The Moorings, Sowerby Bridge, said: “We’ve had a great turn out with some people walking the full 19.6 miles.

“Many families have taken part in the walk.”

Calderdale start and finish points are: The Wharf, Sowerby Bridge; The Barge and Barrel, Elland; Bethel Street car park, Brighouse.

Route Information

The sections from Brighouse to Elland and Elland to Sowerby Bridge are suitable for pushchairs.

The section from Brighouse to Mirfield is the most difficult section but is suitable for able bodied walkers.

Halifax bus company J.T Walsh will operate two bus services to transport walkers between their chosen start/finish point so as to allow them to leave vehicles at one end of the route.

If you’re taking part we would love to hear which route you’ve chose to do and to see your pictures. Please tweet to @hxcourier or email to newsdesk@halifaxcourier.co.uk
