Hundreds set to protest against government cuts with procession through town

Hundreds of people will be out in force to oppose planned local and central government cuts.

The rally, organised by Northern Towns Against Cuts will meet up at Halifax Town Hall on Saturday February 2 at 10.15am before marching to the Piece Hall by 11am for a series of speeches.

Halifax MP Linda Riordan will take to the stage as will a speaker from Remploy, a parent from a children’s centre, Tim Roache of the TUC and Ian Murch NUT National Treasurer.

The 100-year-old City of Bradford Pipe Band will lead the procession through the streets.

Spokesperson Sue McMahon said: “Cuts in public sector services see the vulnerable in our society suffer. Northern towns are bearing the brunt; austerity is a reality that is set to get worse.”
