Love was in the air in a shopping centre Santa’s Grotto, when a man proposed to his girlfriend.

Mark Rolls, 25, from Halifax, planned the festive proposal to 22-year-old girlfriend Natasha Robinson at White Rose shopping centre, Leeds.

Natasha and onlooking Saturday shoppers were stunned.

The bride-to-be thought she was visiting the centre purely for present buying purposes.

She was surprised to discover Santa in the centre grotto already knew her name - after five minutes of jovial chat, Santa told her Mark had a special question to ask her.

She said: “I can’t believe Mark went to so much effort to plan this and that our friends were in on the secret all this time. I’m so happy and really looking forward to spending our first Christmas together as an engaged couple.”

Mark, who has lived with Natasha for over a year, said: “I always said if I was going to propose I’d do it in a big way.

“I’ve been so nervous since I bought the ring and I haven’t slept in days but it was worth it to see how surprised she was. We can’t wait to start planning the wedding now.”
