INTRUDERS caused a “tornado” of damage when they broke into a Halifax park.

Staff at Manor Heath were cleaning up the mess yesterday after thieves broke into the park’s office, cafe and Jungle Experience.

They are thought to have stolen the float from the cafe and a mobile phone from the office.

Phil Johnson, supervisor at Manor Heath, said: “It was like a tornado had come through.

“Everything was off the shelves in the office. I think they were looking for cash.”

Fortunately none of the wildlife at the park – which includes quails, terrapins, butterflies and goldfish – was harmed.

The Jungle Experience was opened in 1998 and the converted glasshouses provide botanical gardens and habitats for a huge variety of butterflies and animals as well as a collection of exotic plants.

Anyone with any information about the break-in, which happened between Monday night and yesterday morning, should call police via 101. Information can also be passed on anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
