a TEACHER is planning to reopen a community playgroup this month which closed in July after 40 years.
Elland Parish Playgroup operated from the Old School Rooms, All Saints’ Church, and was run by a voluntary committee.
But, a culmination of factors, including losing children to school nurseries, resulted in its demise.
Now, Lisa Manning intends opening Elland Under 5’s Community Playgroup at the same venue.
Her own three children attended and she worked there for 12 years before turning to teaching.
She is now working at Siddal Primary School and hopes to re-employ former staff and good friends who lost their jobs to run the business.
Mrs Manning is in the process of re-registering with Ofsted to accommodate 24 youngsters and if that figure is reached she will employ four staff.
The playgroup would open Monday to Wednesday and offer mums short-term respite rather than committing to longer and more expensive sessions.
“There is nothing in between and mums need a break to catch up with chores,” she said.
“I was sad when the old playgroup closed and thought if I can put it back together we can give it another go.”
Two hour sessions would cost £6.50 and the option for longer sessions and a pick-up service will also be available.
