A VISIT to Halifax Fair in the early 1950s sparked a lifelong relationship for Eddie and Rita Mawdsley.
The couple live at Greenfield Close, Northowram, and are celebrating their diamond wedding.
They were married at St George’s Church, Lee Mount.
Mrs Mawdsley attended the former Halifax Modern School, at Clare Hall, and worked at the Civic Theatre, in Halifax, for 13 years, before it became the Victoria.
She also worked at the former Percival Whitley College and was a legal secretary for the council at Halifax Town Hall.
She has been involved with Save the Children, Halifax Old Folk’s Trust Holiday Home and the RNLI Ladies Luncheon Club.
Mr Mawdsley went to the Parish Church Junior School, joined the Royal Navy at the age of 19 and became an engineer.
He worked for 25 years at Crossley’s carpet factory, at Dean Clough. To celebrate their 60 years of marriage, they are planning to party with relatives in Majorca.
The couple have a son and daughter, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
