AFTER 12 years working for Overgate Hospice, Jenni Feather was given a fond farewell by volunteers, patients and staff.

A surprise bash was thrown for Jenni, Chief Executive of the Elland-based charity, for the last four years.

She began at the hospice 11 and a half years ago as matron.

As she walked in to Elland Cricket Club, expecting to receive a cheque, she was greeted by cheers and clapping.

“I’m just staggered, just gobsmacked,” she said. “I’m going to miss the people and the work I do. I am excited about a new future and a life without work but I know I’ll miss lots of people.

“I owe a lot to the staff and volunteers who are just superb,” said Jenni, whose first plans are to go on a six-week holiday to India with her husband. Her replacement, Janet Cawtheray, has been working alongside Jenni. Janet, 47, has worked for the NHS for 26 years across Calderdale and Kirklees and for the last 12 has been the commissioning lead for cancer and end of life care.

“It’s going to be a great honour working for the hospice,” she said.
