Job cuts, price hikes

COUNCIL staff were today being told to expect about 200 redundancies as details of spending cuts were revealed.

Dozens more jobs could go as staff take voluntary early retirement and vacant posts are scrapped as the council attempts to save 13.8 million this year 21.6 million next year, last night's cabinet meeting heard.

Council tax will be frozen this year but charges for home helps, leisure, parking and other services face considerable increases.

The number of managers and chief officers could be slashed, council publications such as Calderdale Call scrapped and there will be a full review of libraries.

Public meetings to explain the plans begin on Monday with a final decision on February 28.
