FAMILY and friends gathered at the home of John Barnett to celebrate his 90th birthday.
He lives with his wife, Eileen, 91, at Spring Lane, Greetland, and they welcomed 40 visitors.
The couple have 24 nieces and nephews and Mr Barnett also has two sisters, Kathleen Wadsworth, 88, of Halifax, and Dorothy Ashcroft, 92, of Australia.
He met his wife on a Blackpool dance floor in 1941 when Greetland-born Mr Barnett was training as an RAF mechanic.
He served in India during the second world war and afterwards worked at an Elland brickworks but visited Blackpool every weekend.
After marriage they lived in Greetland and Mr Barnett progressed from office clerk to managing director of coachbuilders Woodall Nicholson, of Halifax.
A niece Angela Rhodes, of Halifax, said although he can no longer enjoy gardening he has remained sprightly.
“He said he does not feel 90 and still has a very good sense of humour,” she said.
