A POPPY party has helped raise £360 for the Royal British Legion.

The Northowram branch of the Darby and Joan club held the party at Northowram Methodist Church to celebrate the charity’s 90th birthday.

The day included a cake stall, bric-a-brac, raffle and a book sale.

Guests included Mayor of Calderdale Nader Fekri and the branch chairman John Hoggard.

Organiser Ann Hodgson said: “It was a great day and went very well. We were delighted the Mayor could come along.”

Great Poppy Parties were held across the country at the weekend. They asked people to raise a glass and toast their anniversary.
