Killeen waiting to hear his fate
TOWN'S out of contract players face an anxious wait to discover whether they will be offered deals for the 2008-09 campaign.
Manager Chris Wilder is unable to make signings while the club is in administration which means few know where their futures lie.
And Lewis Killeen, who has made more Town appearances than any other player currently at the club, is among those waiting for news.
The 25-year-old has appeared in 201 league games for the Shaymen, initially on loan from Sheffield United then following his permanent move from South to West Yorkshire in June 2003.
So where does he see his future?
"I don't know to be honest," he said. "With what's been going on with the relegation fight and the administration, no one has spoken to the manager and he has not been able to speak to the players.
"There will be player meetings over the next week, he will tell us who he wants to stay and we will take it from there."
Two years ago, Killeen scored the opening goal of the play-off final at Leicester as Town looked to get back into the Football League.
Today he is reflecting on potentially the darkest day in the club's recent history as they narrowly avoided the drop into Blue Square North despite a home defeat on the final day of the campaign.
"It was good to stay up," he said. "The club needs to rebuild now and get back to a winning record in the Conference.
"This is a massive club and doesn't deserve to be in the Conference North.
"I have been here a long time and to have gone down would have hurt big time.
"I know the fans here and I have worked closely with the manager for a number of years.
"I know the effort goes in from all sides and am I am delighted for everyone, the staff and the supporters.
"We survived and that's what we deserved to do."
