Lancaster City v FC Halifax Town: Lincoln keen to take his chance
WHEN Lincoln Adams arrived at the Shay he must have wondered how he was going to dislodge the two most experienced players in Jim Vince's FC Halifax Town squad.
Not only do Tony Barrass and Steve Payne have more than 700 Football League appearances between them they are the club captain and vice captain respectively.
But a pre-season knee injury sustained by Barrass, for which he had surgery this week, has meant 28-year-old Adams playing in both of Town's opening matches in the Unibond League Division One North.
"It is tough on Tony, but I am here to do a job and having been given an opportunity I am going to take it," he said.
Adams, whose former clubs include Ashton United, Stalybridge and Bradford Park Avenue, was one of the players to emerge with credit from the 3-0 opening day defeat against Bamber Bridge.
But he was at a loss to explain exactly what had gone wrong on what was supposed to be the club's big day.
"We did not know what had happened in the first five minutes or so of the first half on Saturday.
"It was just one of those games and I am sure we will get it right."
They went some way to making up for the weekend defeat by bouncing back at Trafford on Tuesday, winning the game 2-1.
"It was fantastic for the boys to win on Tuesday night," he said. "We pulled through and it was exactly what we needed.
"It is a brand new team and we just have to build steadily."
The brand new team has had fantastic support in its opening two matches with 1500 turning up for opening day at the Shay and more than 300 making the trip to Trafford in midweek.
And Adams believes that if the fans turn up in similar numbers in the coming weeks the new club will go from strength to strength.
"It was amazing to see the supporters there having travelled across the country in such numbers," he said.
"And that was despite the fact we had lost the game last weekend.
"They were magnificent and if we can get that support every week it would be fantastic for the club and help us go forward."

The Shaymen are next in home action on Monday when they entertain fellow Unibond League newcomers Durham City (3.0).
