A Cragg Vale landlord has slammed Calderdale Council over its decision to close a major through road to motorists during weekday evenings for five weeks.
From this week to September 20, New Road will be closed from 6pm until midnight, Mondays to Fridays.
Miles Laprell, who runs The Hinchliffe Arms, just off Cragg Road, said nobody in the village was consulted about the decision and raised questions about provision for the emergency services. He added: ”It’s taken time to build up this business and that’s all going to be thrown away because people won’t be able to get here.”
A Calderdale Council spokesperson said extensive consultation was held with residents and businesses before work started. “Everything is being done to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum, and a diversion route is in place. Access for emergency services has been maintained,” said the spokesperson.
