A SCHOOLBOY has been taken to task after he shone a laser pen at a police helicopter in Halifax.
The 12-year-old, from Halifax, was reprimanded by officers in front of his mother for the prank.
But officers are warning people who endanger the helicopter in this way can and have received prison sentences.
When the incident happened last Tuesday, the helicopter was responding to reports of a stolen vehicle escaping from police.
Superintendent Stan Bates from Calderdale Police, said: "The helicopter can be of vital importance to the work we do. It routinely deals with critical incidents where time is a key factor. People shining a laser at the pilot and the crew are potentially distracting them from carrying out important police work. We will deal with anyone who risks the effectiveness of the helicopter."
