THE funeral took place this week of Kevin Cooper, of Bradshaw, Halifax, who was awarded the British Empire Medal in 1992 in recognition of his work.
Mr Cooper, who was 78, spent 30 years as the leader of Bradshaw Scouts.
He was born in Wexford and came to England when he was 15, later joining the Royal Ulster Rifles and serving for five years in Malaysia and in the Korean War.
After leaving the army, he worked as an engineer and helped to build the M62 in the 1960s and afterwards became a maintenance supervisor.
He leaves a widow, Alma, a daughter and two step sons.
