Let's be clinical - Aspin

Boss Neil Aspin has urged his Town side to take their chances when they travel to Chasetown tomorrow (3.0).

The Shaymen had enough opportunities to have won at Frickley in midweek, but had to settle for a goalless draw.

It was only the second time in a league game under Aspin that a Town side that scored more than 100 goals last term had failed to find the back of the net.

And while there will be fewer chances at Evo-Stik Premier level than there were on the way to the One North title, the Shay chief knows there will be enough to win games.

"We will set out to win the game," said Aspin. "And the chances that come along have to be taken.

"We are not going to get the amount of chances we had last year so it is vital that we are clinical."

While Town have picked up four points from their opening two matches, Chasetown are still looking for their first after defeats against Bradford Park Avenue and Marine.

"It doesn't change the way we will approach the game," said Aspin. "Even if they had won their first two nothing would change.

"Obviously we would prefer to play against a team that is losing games than one that keeps winning.

"But it is early days and after promotion they are still finding their feet.

"It just makes you more aware that they will be desperate to get three points.

"But most teams will play like that against Halifax Town."

Town's major injury concerns surround Aaron Hardy, who sprained an ankle at Frickley on Tuesday, and Jamie Vardy, who suffered a recurrence of his shin and heel problems.

"Aaron Hardy is struggling," said Aspin. "He went over on his ankle but because we had used three subs he had to stay on for the last 10 minutes on Tuesday.

"Jamie Vardy is 50-50, especially with a game coming up on Monday as well.

"If someone is doubtful for tomorrow but has a chance to play a couple of days later you have to look at that.

"If it was win or bust you might throw someone on, but at this stage of the season it is different."

There is good news of the three players - Scott Phelan, James Dean and Danny Lowe - who have yet to appear in a squad this season due to various knee problems.

Phelan was due to return to training last night and the Shay medical staff will monitor him for any reaction to that.

Dean is making progress and could be ready to return to the bench in the next seven to 10 days.

Lowe has started running following his knee operation in the summer and remains on course to return to action next month.

TOWN fans wishing to book their place on the official coach for tomorrow's game can still do so by calling the travel line on 07707 143094. The cost will be 9.99 and transport leaves the Shay at 12.0.

Bookings are also being taken for the trip to Mickleover Sports on September 4. The cost will be the same and transport departs at 12.30.
