A MUSIC festival is being held in aid of Help For Heroes – and we’ve got two pairs of tickets up for grabs.

The first-ever White Rose Festival in Wainstalls boasts the Levellers’ Simon Friend and The Wonder Stuff’s Miles Hunt and Erica Nockalls in its line-up, plus plenty more acts from Calderdale and beyond.

Adam Shearer, who co-organised the event with Paul Pyzer, said: “I’m ex-forces and Paul has relatives and friends who are too, and Help For Heroes is a charity that’s quite topical at the moment because not enough is being done for British troops.”

The festival is licensed for 1,000 guests and organisers hope to make it an annual fixture and attract bigger crowds and acts.

Mr Shearer said: “The big festivals are still selling out, but a lot of people are turning their back on them and going to smaller ones, because they are family-friendly, cleaner and more intimate.”

The weekender is held on June 25 – Armed Forces Day –and June 26, from 1pm to 11.30pm at Haighcote Barn, Lumb Lane.

Weekend tickets cost £25 including camping and are available in Halifax from Last Chance Saloon, Guitar Zone, and The Old Shears Inn, or by calling 07723 769467.
