You might not be able to afford to buy Lionel Messi - but you could perhaps buy the shirt off his back!
The Barcelona football superstar has signed a shirt which will be auctioned off at a Sportsman’s Dinner in aid of Overgate Hospice, Elland.
It is one of the biggest fundraisers on the Overgate calendar and 350 people will be attending.
And, hopefully it will be third time lucky as the original date in January was cancelled due to the weather, and guest speaker Matt Le Tissier being unable to attend due to his Sky Sports commitments.
The dinner was rearranged for March but again had to be cancelled due to heavy snow.
Now, organiser Neil Davidson has rescheduled again for Friday, July 19, at The Venue, Barkisland.
Guest speaker will be six times world snooker champion Steve Davis supported by compere Malcolm Lord and comedian Tony Jo.
In addition to the Messi shirt, a Rory McIlroy signed montage; luxury safari holiday for two in Zambia, and a VIP box at the Rugby League Grand Final at Old Trafford in October will also be auctioned.
“As a goodwill gesture, Sky Sports have sent us some exclusive prizes. An example is the 2012 Medinah Ryder Cup flag signed by the whole commentary team,” said Mr Davidson.
“Other prizes include framed and signed British Cycling posters from Bradley Weggins and Victoria Pendleton.
“Sky Sports have been very good and The Venue has been really understanding having had two 350 attendee dinners called off on the day.
“Overgate would like to thank the team at The Venue for keeping cancellation costs to an absolute minimum.”
