“Food is everything,” says Lisa Faulkner, and she’s not joking.

Not long ago she was best known for roles in Brookside and Holby City, but after winning Celebrity MasterChef in 2010 her life changed forever.

“I always loved cooking but it was always just a hobby and I never thought I had a career in it. I always wanted to be an actress.

“But after I took part in the series I just wanted to work in kitchens and spend my life cooking,” says the 43-year-old.

Five years on the cooking bug has not abated. She now has three cookery books to her name, a television series with Matt Dawson and tours the country passing on her love of cooking.

Later this month she will be in Harrogate with the Cake and Bake show alongside the likes of Rosemary Shrager, Aaron Craze and Phil Vickery.

“I love Harrogate and I am really looking forward to coming to the Cake and Bake show and doing some interactive sessions there.”

Lisa says she got her love of good food from her mother and grandmother. Her mother died when she was 16 which had a profound effect on her.

“They were both great cooks and I grew up eating well, it was just what we did there wasn’t anything extraordinary about it to me.”

Lisa, who has an adopted eight-year-old daughter, Billie, says she wants to pass her love of cooking on to her.

“I think it is really important to cook with your children. Billie loves cooking, although baking isn’t her favourite thing.”

Cooking, it seems, is not only the main focus of her career, it is also taking over Lisa’s personal life.

She has been in a relationship with MasterChef presenter and chef John Torode for the last couple of years.

She and Billie now share their London home with Torode and it seems Lisa is even more food obsessed than him.

“We had breakfast the other morning and I started to plan what we were going to have for lunch. John laughed and said, ‘It’s all about the food’ and he’s right.”

Lisa still loves acting, but at the moment her focus is well an truly behind the stove.

Lisa’s third cookery book, Tea and Cake, was published earlier this year.
