Lizzie Jones, the widow of ex Halifax RLFC star Danny Jones, will open this year’s White Rose Awards - the biggest tourism event of its kind in the UK.
The awards will also feature the first full play of the anthemic song “Yorkshire” written by Gary Barlow and Tim Firth for their musical “The Girls”.
The night will be held at the First Direct Arena, Leeds, on Monday, November 9.
Sir Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “It is an honour to welcome Lizzie Jones who will be performing live and we are privileged to hear the first full play of the anthemic song ‘Yorkshire’ written by Gary Barlow and Tim Firth from their new musical based on our very own Calendar Girls.”
Lizzie, who lives at Northowram, Halifax, will also present the Welsh squad with their international shirts at a special benefit match between Danny’s teams, Wales and Keighley Cougars, this Sunday.
Kick off is at 3pm at Cougar Park, gates will open at noon and from 12.30pm - 1.30pm the Wales squad will be available to be photographed by fans and the general public.
The shirts will be presented at 7.30pm in the Executive Suite at Cougar Park.
