Students had a lesson in conservation when pupils from three schools in Halifax planted a 200 metre long hedgerow.

They were joined by members of the Rotary Clubs of Halifax and Halifax Calder for a five-hour shift of planting trees such as hawthorn, elder, crab apple and blackthorn.
Two royal oak trees were also planted in celebration of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, which were grown from acorns from one of the royal estates.
Each child was provided with a certificate from Rotary and the Woodland Trust to show appreciation of their hard work helping to create the hedgerow.
