Local cyclists were given a first-hand experience of next year’s Tour de France with a ride along the route through Calderdale.

As part of this year’s South Pennines Walk and Ride Festival, Calderdale Cyclists’ Touring Club organised another Le Tour en Calderdale event, with 25 riders taking the opportunity to test themselves on the Tour’s terrain.

The 45-mile ride featured the Calderdale section of the 2014 route between Hebden Bridge and Ainley Top.

Secretary Reid Anderson said: “Those who took part were a real mixture of experienced riders and novices.

“We were really pleased that some people turned up who don’t normally ride with us, including a couple from Manchester.

“We designed it so people could drop out if they were a bit tired.

“We will certainly be doing more similar events in the build-up to the Tour next year.

“It was a great day with great weather and great views.”
